I Love Flowers And I Seem To Have A Green Thumb Except When It Comes To Roses! Any Ideas?

I live in a condo-complex and only have a balcony to grow things on. I live in California where the weather is temperate and almost never freezes. I love roses and hate to see them always die! Other plants thrive out there, so I don’t know why the roses die. Please help me figure this out. Many thanks for any suggestions.

I have wordpad listed and when I went in to add notepad it isn’t on my list of anything. I cannot access notepad? I realize it must be a simple answer but can’t seem to find it. Thanks in advance.
